About
English (default) edit | history
The origin of this family goes back to Carlos de las Casas who was a member of the court of Doña Blanca de Castilla. When Doña Blanca married Louis VII of France in 1224,
Carlos went to France with Doña Blanca. In 1248 two of his sons came back to Spain during the reign of Fernando, the Saint. The brothers Guillen de las Casas and Bartolome fought under the command of Fernando during the siege and capture of Seville from the moslems.
Guillen de las Casas, the the royal treasurer of Andalusia, was the grandfather of Guillen III who married Leonor Gonzalez de Medina.

Guillen de las Casas Gonzalez married Madame Isabel de Creux in France.

=======================
Guillien de Las Casas (I) (suffix added for clarification)261,248 was also known as Guillen de Las Casas.9

He was born circa 1390 at Seville, Spain.72

He was Lord of the unoccupied Canary Islands. He had inherited the right to conquer Gran Canaria and Gomeira from his father. Either in agreement with his brothers or by their deaths and through inheritance, he gained the right to conquer all four islands as yet unoccupied.262

He was "alcaide" or Commander of the militia of Seville.263

On 25 Mar 1430 he purchased from the Conde de Niebla the lordship of the occupied islands, Fuerteventura and Ferro, leaving only Lanzarote.264

===============
The first member of this family of note was Carlos De Las Casas, who served Dona Blanca, who served herself in the French Court. France became something of a site of refuge for many Andalusian nobles, who were often times looked upon as inferior by the Castillans.

Carlos and his family grew in Spain, until two of his sons returned to Spain to assist against the Moors, feeling a sense of Spanish patriotism - or at least Andalusian. The brothers, Guillen and Bartolome, returned to serve under Saint Fernando in 1248, specifically besieging Seville, which had capitulated to the Muslims years before. This was an important point for both Spain and the De Las Casas family, as it saw the beginnings of a united effort to drive the Muslims from Spain - and saw a unity between Andalusians and Castillans. Fernando - or Ferdinand - was known as the King of Castile, the King of Leon, and the Count of Leon - with claims to other lands through marriage, and effectively united the nation as his father had tried to do before him.
