Acerca de historia

Nota: Mariscal de Castilla, Veinicuatro de Sevilla, V Señor de Alcalá de Juan de Orta. Siendo muy joven luchó en defensa de la fortaleza de Utrera dada a su padre por el Rey Don Enrique IV y contra los Reyes Católicos, quienes pretendieron despojarle de ella; y también contra los moros a los que tomó la torre de Matrera, en los confines del Reino de Granada. Mas tarde, estando en Sevilla, conoció á Don Diego García de Herrera y a Doña Inés Peraza, su mujer; Señores y Reyes de las siete Islas de Canarias, que a sazón (1477) concluían el memorable tratado por el cual cedían a la corona el derecho de conquista sobre Tenerife, Gran Canaria y Las Palmas, reservando para sí el dominio y señorio de Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera y Hierro. En ese entonces se trató y capituló el casamiento de Don Pedro Fernández de Saavedra con Doña Constanza de Herrera y Peraza, llamada también Doña Constanza de Sarmiento. A principios de 1478, se verificó este matrimonio en la villa de Teguise, capital de la Isla de Lanzarote; siendo Don Pedro, Señor de Fuerteventura con jurisdicción civil y criminal y con la dirección y superintendencia de las armas. Dice Viera que las partes occidentales de Africa fueron en lo sucesivo el teatro de su valor en su lucha contra los salvajes berberiscos. Ayudó con los principales caballeros de Lanzarote y Fuerteventura a levantar el cerco del castillo Guader o Santa Cruz de Mar Pequeña, sitiado por diez mil bárbaros. En Tagaost hizo prisioneros a 158 moros que trajo cautivos a sus estados. En 1491 acudió en auxilio del Gobernador de la Gran Canaria, Francisco de Maldonado que había desembarcado en la rada de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, consiguiendo después de ruda lucha una honrosa retirada. ◦Llamado así en memoria de su abuelo materno Pedro Fernández de Marmolejo. Fue señor de Torrijos, veinticuatro de Sevilla, mariscal de Castilla por su sobrina la mariscala María de Saavedra, caballero de tan grande valor y arrojo que mereció página honrosas a los primeros escritores de su época. Primer señor de la isla de Fuerteventura.

"... natural de Sevilla. Debió ser el tercer señor de la villa de zahara, pero la misma fue reconquistada por los moros a pesar de su hroica defensa. Se distinguió por su valentía y como sus mayores fue un aguerrido y prudente captián; tuvo brillante actuación en la guerra de Granada y sobresalió en la conquista de la torre de Matura en los confines del reino de Granada.
