Antecedentes

Oscar García Mendoza es un alto ejecutivo bancario con una amplia experiencia en el campo de los asuntos económicos. Es ex presidente y director general de Venezolano de Crédito, Banco Universal (fundado en 1925), cargo que ocupó de 1983 a 2014, y actualmente forma parte de su directorio.

Basándose en su experiencia en la industria bancaria, el Sr. García Mendoza ha sido miembro del directorio de varias empresas exitosas a lo largo de su carrera, tanto en Venezuela como en el extranjero. Estos incluyen varias empresas conjuntas con firmas financieras globales como Societe Generale y Swiss Bank Corporation. Anteriormente se desempeñó como miembro de la Corporación Financiera Internacional (IFC), una división del Grupo del Banco Mundial y es cofundador de Suiche 7B, el primer sistema para interconectar cajeros automáticos en toda Venezuela.

Como empresario con visión de futuro, el Sr. García Mendoza participa en una amplia gama de actividades relacionadas con los servicios financieros. Actualmente, es presidente del directorio de NovoPayment Group, una galardonada empresa de servicios y tecnología de pagos que presta servicios en la región de América Latina y el Caribe (LAC).

Ex colaborador de El Universal, uno de los principales periódicos y editoriales venezolanos, y de Veneconomia, un respetado periódico semanal de negocios que cubre noticias nacionales y brinda análisis, es abogado de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello y es autor de varios libros dedicados a asuntos económicos y bancarios, incluyendo “Crónica Involuntaria de una Crisis Inconclusa” (Crónica involuntaria de una crisis inconclusa), Comentarios al Borde del Caos (Comentarios al borde del caos), “El Libro en Rojo del Banco Central de Venezuela” (El Libros en rojo del Banco Central de Venezuela).

Un líder intelectual con un fuerte sentido de responsabilidad social, el Sr. García Mendoza ha colaborado en proyectos que defienden los derechos individuales y la empresa privada. Ejemplos de estos proyectos incluyen Un Sueño para Venezuela, un programa educativo de ciudadanía, Por un País de Propietarios (un programa de defensa de los derechos de propiedad) y el Observatorio Venezolano de Prisiones (un grupo de vigilancia enfocado en proteger los derechos humanos de los presos venezolanos). En 2013, fue honrado con el premio “Excelencia en la defensa de la libertad”, presentado por Atlas Network Foundation.

Experiencia

A lo largo de los años, el Sr. García Mendoza se ha desempeñado como miembro del consejo de administración de algunas de las empresas más destacadas de Venezuela. Estos incluyen a Sivensa, anteriormente la corporación siderúrgica del sector privado más grande del país, La Electricidad de Caracas C.A. y otras empresas enfocadas en los sectores energético, siderúrgico.

Su experiencia también incluye haber sido miembro del directorio de varias instituciones educativas, entre ellas la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB) y la Escuela de Negocios IESA, donde se desempeñó como Fideicomisario. Es el ex presidente del directorio de Conapri, el Consejo Venezolano de Promoción de Inversiones y ex miembro del Consejo Asesor Empresarial.

Actualmente, el Sr. García Mendoza participa en los directorios de tres importantes think tanks: CEDICE Libertad (Centro de Difusión del Conocimiento Económico) del cual es actual presidente, Liderazgo y Visión (Liderazgo y Visión) del cual es fundador y actual presidente, y forma parte del consejo asesor internacional de la Fundación Internacional para la Libertad (International Liberty Foundation).

Educación

El Sr. García Mendoza se graduó de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello en Caracas y obtuvo una licenciatura en estudios sociales de la Universitá Internazionale degli Studi Sociali en Roma, Italia.

Background

Oscar Garcia Mendoza is a senior banking executive with an extensive background the fields of economic affairs. He is the former president and CEO of Venezolano de Crédito, Banco Universal (founded in 1925) a position he held from 1983 to 2014, and currently serves on its board of directors.  

Drawing upon his expertise in the banking industry, Mr. Garcia Mendoza has served on the board of directors of several successful companies throughout his career, both in Venezuela and abroad. These include several joint ventures with global financial firms such as Societe Generale and Swiss Bank Corporation. He previously served as a member of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a division of the World Bank Group and is a co-founder of Suiche 7B, the first system to interconnect ATMs throughout Venezuela.

As a forward-thinking entrepreneur, Mr. Garcia Mendoza participates in a broad range of activities relating to financial services.  Currently, he is chairman of the board at NovoPayment Group, an award-winning payments technology and services company serving the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region.  

A former contributor with El Universal, one of the leading Venezuelan newspapers and publishers, and for Veneconomia, a respected weekly business periodical covering national news and providing analysis, he holds a law degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello’s Law School and has authored several books devoted to economic and banking affairs including “Cronica Involuntaria de una Crisis Inconclusa” (Involuntary Chronicle of an Unfinished Crisis), Comentarios al Borde del Caos (Comments on the Edge of Chaos), “El Libro en Rojo del Banco Central de Venezuela” (The Central Bank of Venezuela’s Books in Red). 

A thought-leader with a strong sense of social responsibility, Mr. Garcia Mendoza has collaborated on projects that champion individual rights and private enterprise. Examples of these projects include Un Sueño para Venezuela, a citizenship educational program, Por un Pais de Propietarios (a property rights defense program) and Observatorio Venezolano de Prisiones (a watch group focused on protecting the human rights of Venezuelan prisoners).  In 2013, he was honored by with the  “Excellence in the Defense of Liberty” award, presented by the Atlas Network Foundation.

Experience

Over the years, Mr. Garcia Mendoza has served as a member of the board of directors for some of the most outstanding companies in Venezuela.  These include Sivensa, formerly the nation’s largest private-sector steel corporation, La Electricidad de Caracas C.A. and other companies focused on the energy, iron and steel sectors.
