Brenin Ddyfed Maredudd ap Tewdws o Ddyfed was born circa 745.2 He was the son of Brenin Ddyfed Tewdos ap Rhein o Ddyfed.2,3 King of Dyfed at South Wales before 796.4,5 Brenin Ddyfed Maredudd ap Tewdws o Ddyfed died in 796. His obituary is generally regarded as the earliest contemporary entry in the Annales Cambriae, the earlier entries having been inserted in the annals at a later date, based on sources whose exact nature is a matter of debate.2,4,6 He was the successor of Brenin Ddyfed Rhain II ap Maredydd o Ddyfed; King of Dyfed.
