Siemowit (también Ziemowit) era, según las crónicas de Galo Anónimo, hijo de Piast el Carretero y Rzepicha. Fue considerado uno de los cuatro príncipes legendarios de los Piast, pero ahora se le considera como un gobernante que existió como personaje histórico. [1] Se convirtió en duque de los polacos en el siglo IX después de que su padre, hijo de Chościsko, se negara a ocupar el lugar del legendario duque Popiel. Siemowit fue elegido como nuevo duque por el wiec. Según una leyenda popular, Popiel fue devorado por ratones en su torre en el lago Gopło. [2] La única mención de Siemowit, junto con su hijo Lestko y su nieto Siemomysł, aparece en la crónica medieval de Gallus Anonymus. [3]
