Alonso was originally from the town of Llerena and came to Tenerife with his brother due to the conquest of the island, which his uncle Hernando de Llerena participated in.
He was Chief Justice on the Inquisition tribunals, in 1524 he became ombudsman, appointed perpetual councilman of the island council by the King in 1538, and he became deputy Governor (at times acting Governor) in 1547. Peraza de Ayala cites manuscripts from that time which say that Alonso executed the office of deputy Governor "with rectitude and diligence". He Married Maria de Cabrera, sister of Captain Luis de San Martin, both children of Diego de San Martín, conquistador and alderman of Tenerife, and Agueda de Cabrera, of the Cabrera family of Andalucía.
Thanks in part to the inheritance from his uncle, the nobleman Hernando de Llerena, Alonso became one the richest and most powerful people in Tenerife. -A public deed signed in La Orotava on Decemeber 24 1544 tells us that by power of Charles V he left each of his sons an opulent Majorat. His last will was opened before the scrivener Gaspar Justiniano on January 28, 1557 and said that he was to be buried in the chapel in the parish of Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion in La Orotava ( see [http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iglesia_de_la_Concepci%C3%B3n_(La_Orotava)] )
Many sources say that Alonso was descended from 'New Christians' [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Christian] who were forced to convert to Christianity from Judaism or face expulsion from Spain.
