Familia Urdaneta

El noble linaje del apellido Urdaneta es originario de Guipúzcoa, con hidalgo y muy antiguo solar en la villa de Legorreta, don Ximeno Urdaneta que pasó a residir a Oñate y en esta villa hizo probanza de su hidalguía en 1388. Pocos años después comenzaron los datos fehacientes y detenidamente comprobados que establecen y garantizan , con la sucesión continuada de padres e hijos, la siguiente genealogía de la Casa de Legorreta y su rama de Venezuela. Don Pedro de Urdaneta, por el año 1402 fue padre de Juan (Joanes) de Urdaneta, que en 1470 casó con Doña María García Lois de Aulia y fueron padres de Alonso de Urdaneta y Lois de Aulia. En 1645 desembarca en un bajel español, en el Puerto de Maracaibo, el marino Capitán Don Martín de Urdaneta Barrenechea y del Campo, fundador de la familia Urdaneta en Venezuela y de otras familias que fundaron sus raíces en America, bautizado en Izcaray , casó en Maracaibo en 1659 con Doña María de la Vega Palacio. Estos esposos fueron bisabuelos de Don Rafael Urdaneta Faría, General en Jefe del Ejercito Libertador de Venezuela, Presidente de la Gran Colombia, Diputado al Congreso de Angostura, Senador en el Congreso de la Gran Colombia y Venezuela, Diputado al Congreso Admirable y Secretario del Despacho de Guerra y Marina; murió en Paris el 23 de Agosto de 1845 cuando se dirigía a Madrid a concluir las negociaciones con la Madre Patria en el tratado de Reconocimiento de Paz y Amistad. Los Urdaneta bajaron desde Maracaibo a Buenos Aires. Tuvieron un papel primordial y protagónico en la Independencia y en la formación de America. El comandante Benito Urdaneta, que luchó en Perú, Ecuador, Colombia y Venezuela. El General Francisco Urdaneta y Ribadavia, nacido en Montevideo, ilustre prócer de la independencia suramericana, quien entre 1760 y 1775 combatiera principalmente en los países bolivarianos.La familia Urdaneta durante su presencia en America se ha hecho notable en todos los países que se han radicado, como exitosos Abogados, Ingenieros, Médicos, Arquitectos, Periodistas, Administradores, Ganaderos, Presidentes de Países, Banqueros y muchas otras actividades y profesiones Graduados muchos con Honores en las Mejores Universidades del País y del Mundo. El Apellido Urdaneta es de origen locativo, ya que según su etimología, el vocablo "Urdaneta" está compuesto del vasco "urdan" que significa "jabalí" y el sufijo locativo "-eta" que quiere decir "lugar de ", lo que significa Lugar del Jabalí.
