Sancho Pérez de Ayala “Motila”, “que tomó este nombre porque cuando el rey don Alonso le pregunto cómo le llamaban al mozo en su tierra en vascuence dijo que «motilla» y por esto se llamaba «Mutila», y así llamaron a los que sucedieron…”'. Sancho hizo la torre de Murillas la Mayor; fue señor de Mena y Unza, falleció hacia 1288 y casó con Aldonza Díaz de Veláscuri y Rojas.
